Start where it matters. The Vikings took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They banked enough surplus on Simpson to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 23 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 28th overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside. Need was not the driver here.
They paid sticker price for Leonard Taylor III in Round 4, Pick 8, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
They did well to land Beau Brade in slot 137, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Jaylin Simpson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Hunter Nourzad slipping to pick No. 167 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jordan Magee at the 232nd pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
