You build a draft on nights like this. Barrett Carter had no business being available in No. 163, and the Vikings did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They are betting Roberts proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Kenneth Grant at No. 42 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jake Majors well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
LT Overton in the 97th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Jordan James in Round 4, Pick 11, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jaeden Roberts in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Barrett Carter in pick No. 163 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They reached a country mile for Garrett Dellinger at pick 243, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
