Somebody in the Round 5 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Vikings sat still while Jake Majors, the No. 91 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Reaching for Walley left real value on the table behind him. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Hit on T.J. Sanders and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th pick they get a load in the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on Danny Stutsman in Round 3, Pick 33, a genuine coup. A minor itch, scratched.
Steal is underselling it; Cam Skattebo at No. 138 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Jake Majors in pick 150 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Dorian Strong at the 159th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Addison West at slot 187. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Justin Walley at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Cody Lindenberg at pick No. 240 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
