The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Justin Rogers, Round 7, Pick 9, roughly 36 picks past where he belonged.
Every board in the league had Travis lower, and that gap is the story. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 13 they get a potential shutdown corner, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A premium they did not need to pay, Kingsley Suamataia a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A slide stopped in pick No. 77, with Jeremiah Trotter Jr. worth more than the price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Johnny Wilson at the Round 4 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan Travis in the 148th overall pick, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Garret Greenfield at the 208th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good price on Javontae Jean-Baptiste in Round 7, Pick 3, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Justin Rogers in pick 229, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
