The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A weekend of give and take that grades a C+.
They are betting McCarthy proves the room right and everyone else wrong. With wide receiver, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on OLB-EDGE is the choice that costs them. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McGlothern.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.

The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for J.J. McCarthy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went OLB-EDGE with Javon Solomon while clear needs at wide receiver, tight end and other spots sat open.
Trevor Keegan in No. 129 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A premium they did not need to pay, Nelson Ceaser a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Kamal Hadden in pick No. 167, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
