The Vikings bet big and early on Andrew Raym, 62 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. It washes out to a C+, no better and no worse.
They have staked the next five years on J.J. McCarthy, which is the only story that really matters here. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.

In the 4th overall pick they get a long-term answer under center, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.

This one needs a full-page explanation: Jalyx Hunt in No. 129, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nice patience on Nehemiah Pritchett, who had no business lasting to pick 157. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Kamal Hadden at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Andrew Raym well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Solomon Byrd at pick 230 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Rasheen Ali at slot 232 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
