Minnesota Vikings

Daniels is the plan now, and the Vikings grade out a B-.

The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.

The cost of the Cole reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Spending an early pick on DT-EDGE with safety, running back and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Jayden Daniels · QB · rank 7
In the Round 1 slot they get a franchise quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Maason Smith · DT-EDGE · rank 113
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 108 on Maason Smith with safety, running back and other spots unsolved.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 136
They took Jaylin Simpson at par in the 129th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.1 · Pick 137 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 137
Jarrian Jones at slot 137 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Brandon Coleman · OL · rank 185
A big swing on Brandon Coleman at the 157th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.31 · Pick 167 · Myles Cole · DE-EDGE · rank 198
A real head-scratcher, Myles Cole in No. 167 is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · Delmar Glaze · C · rank 192
The board had cheaper options than Delmar Glaze at pick No. 177, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.12 · Pick 232 · Tylan Grable · OT · rank 232
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tylan Grable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
