They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Vikings' quarterback, full stop.
They banked enough surplus on Newton to cover a lot of smaller sins. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the offensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Chop Robinson slid further than he should have, and pick No. 38 is lovely value for the edge rusher. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy little value on Tyler Nubin in slot 42, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Trey Benson at pick 107 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Josh Newton in Round 5, Pick 20 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Luke McCaffrey at No. 169 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Khristian Boyd in the 176th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Kamal Hadden in the 187th pick, plain and simple. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Trevin Wallace at pick 230 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Trey Knox at No. 239 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
