Start where it matters. The Vikings took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The bottom line is a respectable B.
If Jeffcoat pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Adams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while safety and tight end went begging. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Braden Fiske in the 54th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A premium they did not need to pay, Trey Benson a notch or two before his time. A need, and now a little less of one.
They bypassed pressing needs at safety and tight end to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
Good price on Cedric Gray in No. 130, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Chau Smith-Wade at Round 5, Pick 3 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor itch, scratched.
Isaiah Adams at the 156th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Luke McCaffrey. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jalyx Hunt slipping to No. 179 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
A slide stopped in pick No. 190, with Dwight McGlothern worth more than the price. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They paid sticker price for Nathan Thomas in pick 205, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They liked KT Leveston enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 223. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Trajan Jeffcoat at Round 7, Pick 36 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
