The board owed the Vikings one, and it paid up: Ben Sinnott, the No. 145 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 207 like a gift left on the doorstep. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
Every board in the league had Jones lower, and that gap is the story. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 18 they get a disruptor off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kool-Aid McKinstry in No. 49 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Kris Jenkins at Round 3, Pick 1 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Junior Colson slipping to pick No. 84 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor itch, scratched.
Circle this one: Christian Haynes at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Zak Zinter at slot 109 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A clean, defensible pick in the 130th overall pick with a little surplus value in Isaiah Adams. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cole Bishop at the 145th pick is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Johnny Dixon at the 149th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Jaylen Wright in the 157th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Javon Baker well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jordan Travis in pick 179 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Aki Ogunbiyi. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Ben Sinnott at pick No. 207 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
Taking Jaylan Ford in slot 227 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Zion Logue in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A wild overpay on Jayson Jones in pick No. 252, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
