Thirty-one other rooms let Chris Paul Jr. slide, and the Raiders were the ones holding the card at the 212th overall pick. Highway robbery.
Every board in the league had Sheppard lower, and that gap is the story. The whole projection now runs through Shedeur Sanders; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
The Campbell pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, cornerback and other spots still on the board.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 6 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jalon Walker at the 37th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
A running back of that caliber at slot 68 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They robbed the room for Xavier Watts here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Jihaad Campbell while clear needs at edge rusher, cornerback and other spots sat open.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Devin Neal in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Tahj Brooks all the way to the 181st overall pick, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Chris Paul Jr. still on the board at Round 6, Pick 37. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Value said wait; Will Sheppard in pick 216 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A conviction pick on Shilo Sanders at No. 221 that the board grades a round light. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
