The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Bo Nix, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
They are betting Robinson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The McClellan pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Hit on Bo Nix and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
Bo Nix at the 9th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kingsley Suamataia at slot 44 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Jarvis Brownlee Jr. at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jacob Cowing at No. 142 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Layden Robinson in pick 148 is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They let Jase McClellan come to them and pounced at pick No. 208. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Knox. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Trevin Wallace went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 9. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Bub Means in pick No. 240 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
