The Raiders spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Cam Skattebo, the No. 105 name on the board, in pick 212.
They will need Horn Jr. to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Jaxson Dart is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get the face of the franchise, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
In slot 25 they get a true top target, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jalon Walker in the 37th overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Nice patience on TreVeyon Henderson, who had no business lasting to No. 68. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Quinshon Judkins in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick 142 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Oronde Gadsden II at pick No. 178 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to the 212th pick, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jimmy Horn Jr. at slot 216 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached into another round for Shilo Sanders, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
