Whatever else happened, they won the night they took DeJean. They will answer for taking cornerback early while quarterback, wide receiver and other spots went begging.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 10 they get a cornerstone up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 21st overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Taliese Fuaga slipping to the Round 2 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nothing to complain about; Nate Wiggins went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, wide receiver and other spots to take Denzel Burke, a cornerback that was not the priority.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 3, Pick 6 on Cooper DeJean with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots unsolved.
A curious use of No. 85. Quarterback, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a DT-EDGE in Maason Smith did not.
They paid sticker price for Tyleik Williams in pick 106, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They went early on Javion Cohen in No. 108, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Troy Fautanu in the Round 4 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
