The Vikings did not so much draft Jordan Travis as overpay for him, 65 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
The Ford pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get protection for the quarterback. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a double-digit-sack hope, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jordan Travis in pick No. 108 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They went early on Trevor Keegan in No. 129, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taking Jarrian Jones in the 157th pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Tykee Smith at pick 167 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jase McClellan well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jaylan Ford in the 230th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A slide stopped in slot 232, with Jordan Magee worth more than the price. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
