The Raiders went off the board in a big way for Devin Leary, 84 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Hadden steal is the beam this whole class leans on. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a long-term starter on the line at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Keon Coleman at slot 44 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach on Dominick Puni in the Round 3 slot; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Caelen Carson was still sitting there in pick No. 112, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
James Williams at pick 148 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. in the 208th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Devin Leary well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kamal Hadden at Round 7, Pick 9 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
