The phones were a trap the Vikings kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
Everything downstream of Drake Maye depends on Drake Maye, and the building knows it. They are betting Haynesworth proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Neyor falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, safety very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, Jer'Zhan Newton went about where he belonged in pick No. 11. A need, and now a little less of one.
Fair-plus on Chop Robinson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on Khyree Jackson in slot 108, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Sincere Haynesworth at the 130th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at No. 148 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A slide stopped in the 160th pick, with Edefuan Ulofoshio worth more than the price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Frank Gore Jr. at pick 165 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Aki Ogunbiyi in No. 179, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They robbed the room for Isaiah Neyor here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
