The tape said wait; the Raiders did not. Nick Martin went at pick No. 218, a good 42 picks before the board was ready.
They banked enough surplus on Tuten to cover a lot of smaller sins. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 21 they get a disruptive interior force at fair value.
A slide stopped in the 37th overall pick, with Nick Emmanwori worth more than the price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jihaad Campbell. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A straight-up fair deal on Quinshon Judkins at slot 68, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jayden Higgins at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cam Skattebo in pick 107 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Oronde Gadsden II in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Bhayshul Tuten in the 182nd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Roc Taylor all the way to the 214th overall pick, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Nick Martin this early at slot 218. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
