The Vikings lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
J.J. McCarthy is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They are betting McCarthy proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That Pritchett pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide. A real need, handled.
J.J. McCarthy at No. 11 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zak Zinter. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Josh Newton in the 129th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
A cornerback of that caliber at slot 167 is the definition of value, full stop. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
