The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Raiders watched Tyler Shough slide 74 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
The Milroe reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Mike Hilton pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took Jihaad Campbell at par in slot 37, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A big swing on Jalen Milroe at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cam Skattebo in pick No. 81 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Sebastian Castro in the 108th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor itch, scratched.
The board had Jordan Phillips higher than the 119th pick, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Miles Frazier still on the board at pick 143. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
O'Donnell Fortune at No. 180 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Somehow Tyler Shough was still sitting there in pick No. 213, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for DJ Giddens here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Craig Woodson at the Round 7 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
