Thirty-one other rooms let Christian Jones slide, and the Raiders were the ones holding the card at the 234th overall pick. Highway robbery. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Sweat reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a blindside protector. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board had cheaper options than T'Vondre Sweat at the 44th pick, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Cooper Beebe at slot 77, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Roman Wilson was still sitting there in the 112th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Cedric Gray at pick 150 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A minor itch, scratched.
AJ Barner at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Christian Jones at pick No. 234 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
