The Raiders looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jimmy Horn Jr. at slot 224 regardless, 84 picks early. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
They banked enough surplus on Skattebo to cover a lot of smaller sins. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value.
Value with a capital V on Shavon Revel Jr. in No. 37, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached a country mile for Jaxson Dart at Round 2, Pick 7, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nick Emmanwori at the 41st overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board had TreVeyon Henderson higher than pick No. 68, and the running back fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Darien Porter in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Tate Ratledge was still sitting there in pick 107, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Dylan Sampson in the 110th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Savion Williams slid further than he should have, and Round 4, Pick 12 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Dont'e Thornton Jr. in No. 141 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Oronde Gadsden II. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They will replay Danny Stutsman at the 147th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Barrett Carter in No. 182 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Mitchell Evans at pick No. 214 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Cam Skattebo at the 218th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
A big swing on Jimmy Horn Jr. at the 224th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
