There is reaching, and then there is Jaylon Hutchings at pick No. 223. The Raiders jumped the board by 131 and dared it to prove them wrong. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Bo Nix is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 19 they get a franchise quarterback, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
Tyler Guyton at pick No. 44 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
T.J. Tampa in pick 77 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Roman Wilson in Round 3, Pick 19, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Bucky Irving at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached into another round for Myles Cole, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Marist Liufau at the 154th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Johnny Dixon at pick 208 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jaylon Hutchings in the 223rd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Taking Tahj Washington in slot 227 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
