Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Texans spent pick 81 on Michael Barrett, a name the board had a full 99 spots lower.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 23 they get a bendy edge with upside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid a round early for T'Vondre Sweat in slot 45, more than the board wanted. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach on Cooper Beebe in pick No. 65; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Roman Wilson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.

They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jaylen Wright in the 163rd pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
