When a board-topper like Jer'Zhan Newton slides to the 77th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Raiders did not. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Reaching for Taylor left real value on the table behind him. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They barely believed it either: Marvin Harrison Jr. still on the board at Round 2, Pick 12. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They will replay Dallas Turner at pick No. 48 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jer'Zhan Newton at the 77th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 112 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A big swing on Joe Milton III at pick 148, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trey Taylor. A minor itch, scratched.
The board fumbled Jase McClellan all the way to No. 223, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
LaDarius Henderson in slot 229 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
