When a board-topper like Daequan Hardy slides to pick 247, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The cost of the Sweat reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 23 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
They talked themselves into T'Vondre Sweat at pick No. 40, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cooper Beebe at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Johnny Wilson in the 78th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on James Williams. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jaylen Wright slipping to Round 5, Pick 27 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Darius Muasau in slot 239 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Somehow Daequan Hardy was still sitting there in the 247th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
