Arizona Cardinals

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Cardinals: B.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Cardinals did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to tight end, which was the need that mattered most. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Joe Alt · OT · rank 3
In the 2nd overall pick they get a building block for the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R1.21 · Pick 21 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 23
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · JT Tuimoloau · DE-EDGE · rank 33
By-the-book stuff, JT Tuimoloau at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 60
Nothing to complain about; Jonathon Brooks went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.6 · Pick 70 · Mekhi Wingo · DT · rank 73
They took Mekhi Wingo at par in pick 70, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
R3.22 · Pick 85 · McKinnley Jackson · DL · rank 83
A straight-up fair deal on McKinnley Jackson at the 85th pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 105
They paid sticker price for Cam Hart in slot 102, and that is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 132
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Smael Mondon Jr.. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Beaux Limmer · C · rank 141
Beaux Limmer in pick 139 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Sincere Haynesworth · C · rank 169
Sincere Haynesworth at the 169th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 198
Joe Milton III in No. 198 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Isaiah Williams · WR · rank 222
No edge and no loss on Isaiah Williams in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.6 · Pick 226 · Jordan Whittington · WR · rank 226
Jordan Whittington at slot 226 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
