The rest of the league had time to spare on DeMonte Capehart; the Raiders did not wait, grabbing him 32 spots ahead at pick 243.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Gore Jr. pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get a press-man option on the boundary, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, Kingsley Suamataia at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 13 with a little surplus value in Johnny Wilson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Dominick Puni in the 97th overall pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They went early on Darius Robinson in No. 112, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had cheaper options than James Williams at the 118th pick, and it noticed. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A tidy bit of business in the 150th pick, where Luke McCaffrey graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Frank Gore Jr. at slot 190 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
They took AJ Barner at par in Round 6, Pick 18, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jeremy James in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A real head-scratcher, DeMonte Capehart in pick No. 243 is miles ahead of his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
