The Raiders put a flag in the ground for Omar Speights, 30 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Jayden Daniels at slot 5 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jared Verse in the Round 1 slot is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A quiet steal in No. 44: Xavier Legette for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A tidy little value on Johnny Wilson in pick No. 77, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Leonard Taylor III in Round 4, Pick 13 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
The board had cheaper options than Edefuan Ulofoshio at the 147th overall pick, and it noticed. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Omar Speights at No. 190 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
