When a board-topper like Zakhari Franklin slides to pick No. 242, you do not overthink it, and the Texans did not.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a true top target at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Kris Jenkins went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had Blake Corum higher than slot 88, and the running back fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Junior Colson at the 121st overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jahdae Barron at pick No. 127. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid sticker price for LaDarius Henderson in the 158th pick, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Dwight McGlothern in No. 239 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They robbed the room for Zakhari Franklin here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
