The Texans treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 164th overall pick on Jordan Whittington a full 107 spots early.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get protection for the quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
A big swing on Cooper Beebe at slot 59, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 85 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Christian Jones at the 123rd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Javon Foster at pick 127 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Whittington in the 164th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Keilan Robinson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They went early on Derek Wingo in Round 7, Pick 28, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
