The Eagles lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. For now it grades a C+, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. If Trotter Jr. pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Vaki at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
They reached into another round for Jeremiah Trotter Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It adds depth where they could use a little.
DJ James at pick No. 53 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Matt Goncalves in the 120th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyrone Tracy Jr. at the Round 5 slot is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tykee Smith at No. 171 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had Sione Vaki higher than slot 172, and the safety fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
