The Raiders ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Hart reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Adding Justin Fields by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 18 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reach for T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 49; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nothing to complain about; Brenden Rice went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A wild overpay on Cam Hart in the 112th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Braelon Allen in the 150th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good price on Josh Proctor in slot 190, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A real head-scratcher, Brevyn Spann-Ford in Round 6, Pick 21 is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Eric Gentry at the Round 7 slot, value and slot in agreement. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
