The tape said wait; the Raiders did not. Jalen Milroe went at Round 7, Pick 15, a good 24 picks before the board was ready. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. It is not that Jackson is a bad player; it is that the Raiders had louder needs to answer first. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Guyton.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. A clean fit for the roster.
Cooper Beebe at pick No. 46 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They reached a country mile for Payton Wilson at the 78th pick, and the board is aghast. A minor itch, scratched.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Khyree Jackson adds a defensive back and leaves edge rusher, cornerback and other spots untouched.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tyler Guyton at the 151st overall pick is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Jacob Cowing at par in No. 192, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jalen Milroe at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
