The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Eagles reached some 73 spots for Derek Wingo, and value like that does not grow back. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. However the rest shakes out, Sturdivant at that price is a win they earned. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a downhill hitter at safety, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Ladd McConkey at the 51st overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A slide stopped in Round 2, Pick 32, with Denzel Burke worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kiran Amegadjie at No. 97 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Cedric Gray at the 137th pick, value and slot in agreement. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A big swing on Curtis Jacobs at the Round 5 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
J. Michael Sturdivant in Round 5, Pick 36 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A wild overpay on Brandon Coleman in pick No. 178, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Derek Wingo in slot 253 is miles ahead of his ranking. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
