They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Will Rogers, 100 picks early at the Round 7 slot.
The Simon steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They have staked the next five years on Jalen Milroe, which is the only story that really matters here.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
Jalen Milroe at the 6th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tate Ratledge at pick 37 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tez Johnson at the Round 3 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Xavier Watts at the 73rd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board fumbled Dylan Sampson all the way to Round 4, Pick 3, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jason Marshall Jr. at pick No. 139 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nice patience on Eli Stowers, who had no business lasting to No. 181. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taking Cody Simon in pick 212 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Tonka Hemingway in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Will Rogers in the 221st overall pick, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
