The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Chop Robinson, slot 50, roughly 29 picks past where he belonged.
It is not that Gray is a bad player; it is that the Eagles had louder needs to answer first. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Trotter Jr. reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Chop Robinson at the 50th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Jeremiah Trotter Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 53. A minor itch, scratched.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cedric Gray adds a linebacker and leaves interior defensive lineman, offensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Tykee Smith at Round 5, Pick 25 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They let Kitan Oladapo come to them and pounced at slot 171. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dwight McGlothern in the 172nd overall pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Tahj Washington at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
