Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Texans spent the 124th overall pick on Byron Murphy II, a name the board had a full 50 spots lower. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. Spending an early pick on TE-EDGE with running back, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy little value on Cooper Beebe in the 53rd overall pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tory Horton at the 95th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A surprising call. With running back, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent slot 121 on Cade Stover, a TE-EDGE they were not short of.
Byron Murphy II in No. 124 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
