There is reaching, and then there is J.J. Weaver at No. 158. The Eagles jumped the board by 159 and dared it to prove them wrong. It lands right in the middle: a C-, no more, no less.
They banked enough surplus on Hadden to cover a lot of smaller sins. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
Hit on Nate Wiggins and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
Nate Wiggins slid further than he should have, and slot 30 is lovely value for the cornerback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tyler Guyton at pick 50 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Somehow Payton Wilson was still sitting there in the 83rd pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A straight-up fair deal on Braelon Allen at the 99th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Joe Milton III at pick No. 113 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Isaac Guerendo in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
They reached into another round for J.J. Weaver, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A real head-scratcher, Frank Crum in the 210th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid up for Eric Watts at pick 218 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Brevyn Spann-Ford in slot 228 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They will replay Kamal Hadden at Round 7, Pick 20 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cornelius Johnson at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wild overpay on Tyler Harrell in pick No. 254, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
