Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings cashed the board's mistake on Sainristil: B-.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Vikings watched Mike Sainristil slide 28 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Thrash pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · JT Tuimoloau · DE-EDGE · rank 30
JT Tuimoloau in pick 32 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.19 · Pick 51 · Leonard Taylor III · DL · rank 60
A reach for Leonard Taylor III in the 51st pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 57
They took Trey Benson at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Jamari Thrash · WR · rank 135
A premium they did not need to pay, Jamari Thrash a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Fabien Lovett · DL · rank 163
Fabien Lovett at slot 157 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.25 · Pick 161 · Gabriel Murphy · DL-EDGE · rank 164
By-the-book stuff, Gabriel Murphy at the 161st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Gabe Hall · DL · rank 174
They paid sticker price for Gabe Hall in No. 168, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 151
Circle this one: Mike Sainristil at Round 6, Pick 4 is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.21 · Pick 241 · Ricky White · WR · rank 224
They read the board right and Ricky White was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 21. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
