The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Vikings watched Mike Sainristil slide 28 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Thrash pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
JT Tuimoloau in pick 32 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach for Leonard Taylor III in the 51st pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Trey Benson at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jamari Thrash a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
Fabien Lovett at slot 157 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Gabriel Murphy at the 161st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Gabe Hall in No. 168, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Mike Sainristil at Round 6, Pick 4 is a fall that decides a draft. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They read the board right and Ricky White was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 21. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
