Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Raiders spent the Round 6 slot on Phillip Webb, a name most had 122 spots down the list. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Landing Ransom that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The phones were where this weekend was really won. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in slot 37 with a little surplus value in Omarion Hampton. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Jayden Higgins at the 68th pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A real head-scratcher, Jeffrey Bassa in the Round 3 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
A big swing on Jack Nelson at the 107th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Lathan Ransom at pick 150 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
RJ Harvey at Round 6, Pick 4 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cobee Bryant in slot 211 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached into another round for Tonka Hemingway, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached a country mile for Phillip Webb at No. 218, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Justin Walley at the 224th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
