The Texans did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jacob Cowing fell into the 240th overall pick.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. If Sanders pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
No drama and no debate, Keon Coleman went about where he belonged in pick 33. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fair-plus on Jordan Morgan, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kamren Kinchens at Round 3, Pick 1 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 95 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tommy Eichenberg at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyleik Williams at the 124th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A wild overpay on Raheim Sanders in slot 158, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jacob Cowing in the 240th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jack Howell in slot 242 is fair value, right on his grade. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
