The Texans torched the value chart for Phil Jurkovec, taking him 47 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Johnson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

The Texans clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Rome Odunze · WR · rank 12
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.30 · Pick 30 · T'Vondre Sweat · DL · rank 32
In slot 30 they get a wrecking ball inside. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · Jer'Zhan Newton · DL · rank 16
Nice patience on Jer'Zhan Newton, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 1. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.21 · Pick 53 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 55
Javon Foster in the 53rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 60
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jonathon Brooks. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.26 · Pick 89 · Zak Zinter · OG · rank 94
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at the 89th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 122
A real head-scratcher, Junior Colson in the 90th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Adisa Isaac · DE-EDGE · rank 98
Adisa Isaac in pick 92 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.21 · Pick 121 · Max Melton · CB · rank 120
By-the-book stuff, Max Melton at No. 121 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R4.24 · Pick 124 · James Williams · S · rank 131
James Williams at slot 124 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 164
They paid sticker price for Ben Sinnott in pick No. 158, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.20 · Pick 240 · Cornelius Johnson · WR · rank 216
Cornelius Johnson in Round 7, Pick 20 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.22 · Pick 242 · Phil Jurkovec · QB · rank 289
They talked themselves into Phil Jurkovec at the 242nd overall pick, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
