The trade table was a mismatch, and the Raiders were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Every board in the league had Hart lower, and that gap is the story.
The Raiders paired the rookies with proven help, Aaron Donald leading the way. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Tagovailoa.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They took J.J. McCarthy at par in pick 44, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Johnny Wilson in slot 77, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They did well to land Christian Mahogany in the Round 3 slot, just ahead of his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They talked themselves into Cam Hart at Round 4, Pick 12, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked James Williams enough to skip the value, taking him in the 124th pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
By-the-book stuff, Braelon Allen at No. 150 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Christian Jones at pick No. 194 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at the 212th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steele Chambers at slot 234 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor itch, scratched.
Value with a capital V on Taulia Tagovailoa in Round 7, Pick 16, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
