Nobody had Sean Martin this high, and it is not close. The Vikings reached 109 spots to get him at Round 6, Pick 40.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
They left a pile of value on the table to take Barrett Carter this early at the Round 2 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They reached a country mile for Jordan Travis at Round 2, Pick 27, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Frank Gore Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Malachi Moore at pick No. 157 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
They read the board right and Jack Nelson was the payoff at No. 161. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Fabien Lovett at the 168th pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid a round early for Jaylan Ford in pick 179, more than the board wanted. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
A wild overpay on Zion Nelson in pick No. 205, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They talked themselves into Sean Martin at the 215th pick, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
