Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Garrett Dellinger at No. 217 is 80 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
Blue at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 14 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Emeka Egbuka is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jihaad Campbell at the 37th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 3, with TreVeyon Henderson worth more than the price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quinshon Judkins in pick 68 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Andrew Mukuba in pick No. 80; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No drama and no debate, Jalen Milroe went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jacob Parrish at slot 108 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nice patience on Hollin Pierce, who had no business lasting to the 143rd overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 180th pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid a round early for Donovan Edwards in No. 189, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Oronde Gadsden II was still sitting there in pick 213, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Caleb Ransaw was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 39. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Jaydon Blue in pick No. 216 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Garrett Dellinger, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jordan Hancock at the 218th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A real head-scratcher, John Williams in pick No. 220 is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
