The rest of the league had time to spare on Garrett Dellinger; the Raiders did not wait, grabbing him 75 spots ahead at Round 7, Pick 6. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. On value alone, Thornton Jr. makes the weekend a net positive.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 20th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jihaad Campbell in pick 33 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Booker in slot 37, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Xavier Watts slid further than he should have, and the 51st overall pick is lovely value for the safety. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Quinshon Judkins at No. 67 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Darien Porter at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They went early on Jalen Milroe in the 80th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Anthony Belton in slot 108 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Brashard Smith at Round 5, Pick 5. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Bhayshul Tuten here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the 213th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Somehow Oronde Gadsden II was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A need, and now a little less of one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Garrett Dellinger this early at No. 222. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
