Start where it matters. The Vikings took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
They are betting Byrd proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Landing Tracy Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get the arm they will build around, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Theo Johnson in the 108th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. at pick 167 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jordan Jefferson in No. 177 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Garret Greenfield in the 230th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Solomon Byrd at slot 232, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
