This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Kalel Mullings, the No. 104 name on the board, stolen at the 202nd pick. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A.
The Vinson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Spending an early pick on linebacker with quarterback and edge rusher open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
You do not let a safety like Nick Emmanwori reach No. 34 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Jalon Walker all the way to the 59th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Dylan Fairchild slipping to the 64th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Tyler Warren was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 1, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Good price on Deone Walker in pick No. 76, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Andrew Mukuba at slot 79 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach on Luke Kandra in pick 90; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jake Majors at the Round 3 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
TreVeyon Henderson in pick No. 113 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Demetrius Knight Jr. at linebacker with quarterback and edge rusher open.
They will replay Devin Neal at the 126th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Carson Vinson at the Round 4 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They robbed the room for Elic Ayomanor here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They let Jason Marshall Jr. come to them and pounced at slot 138. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Taking Kevin Winston Jr. in No. 162 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They barely believed it either: Kalel Mullings still on the board at Round 6, Pick 27. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
