The Eagles spent real capital to be 107 picks early on J.J. Weaver, and the board is going to hold them to it. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Landing McCaffrey that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Graham Barton at the Round 1 slot squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Javon Bullard at the 50th overall pick is the proof. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Payton Wilson at par in Round 2, Pick 21, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Nice patience on Max Melton, who had no business lasting to slot 88. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 120 with a little surplus value in Matt Goncalves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Myles Cole at the 161st pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Daijun Edwards at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Luke McCaffrey at slot 172 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, J.J. Weaver in pick No. 210 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
